About Marios

Marios is a serial entrepreneur and experienced board director who worked in significant positions in both the government and the private sector. After becoming a qualified Chartered Accountant, he started his career as an auditor, and soon after moved to the Investment Management sector where he led the asset management department of two banks managing money for institutional investors. Following his appointment as Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, he gained significant experience in government planning and policy in the transport and Infrastructure sectors. During the last six years he has invested with various partners in both traditional SMEs and technology startups, involved in both their creation and scaling process.

Marios experience

He has served in various Boards in the Financial services and Transportation sectors. As a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Qualified Risk Director (“QRD”) he brings to these Boards significant knowledge and experience on how to assess and mitigate the increasing risks faced by these organizations. He served both as a chairman and member of the Audit and Risk Committees responsible among others to ensure regulatory compliance and assessment of various risks including ESG and Cybersecurity risks. This also includes the new regulatory and disclosure requirements of the financial services authorities in Europe and requirements of the New York Stock Exchange. His experience in financial services and the knowledge acquired through his CFA designation enabled Marios to better understand and provide constructive solutions on how to handle complex financial instruments and accounting issues.

He served in various Boards in the Financial services and Transportation sectors. Marios is very focused on offering back to community and in this capacity, he also serves on a pro bono basis in the board of directors of two non-profit organizations involved in earth observation and maritime education. He is also part of various initiatives in helping the less fortunate through various organizations.

He has been awarded several honours during his professional career both for his work as a Minister and as an investment professional. He is one of the founders and the first President of the CFA Society of Cyprus seeking to improve ethics and professionalism in his native country Cyprus. Marios has been a speaker in many international and local conferences and has been invited several times to both public and private Universities for making presentations about his work to students.
